About Planning

The Northwest Piedmont Council of Governments (NWPCOG) planning staff engages in three basic types of planning for local governments in our five-county area:

1) Land Use Planning, this includes zoning administration and long-range plans.

2) Rural Transportation Planning

3) Environmental Planning

On a contractual basis, planning staff provides zoning/planning administration services to our local governments.

COG planners also help facilitate long-range plans for counties and municipalities through GIS mapping and advisement.

NWPCOG also provides rural transportation for Davie, Stokes, Surry, and Yadkin County.  This includes prioritization of projects for TIP, help with enhancement applications, among many others.

NWPCOG provides environmental planning with watershed & river/stream conservation planning.
