Environmental Planning
The Northwest Piedmont COG environmental planning consists of three types of water quality projects.
1) Watershed Protection. To learn more about this project, please go to http://www.nwpwatersheds.org/.
2) Water Quality Training. The City of Winston-Salem and the COG is working on stromwater educational program targeting Hispanic in the Winston-Salem area. We are promoting 3 goals. A) Winston-Salem/Forsyth County water is pure and high in quality. B) Help maintain water quality. C) Information about fines and penalties that go along with polluting the stormwater.
3) River Corridor Conservation. The COG planning staff is currently working on the Yadkin River Corridor Study. The Yadkin River is our most important natural resource in our region. City of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, Davie County, City of King, Towns of Jonesville and Elkin all get their drinking water out of the Yadkin River. Because of this, it is important to keep this resource clean for future generations as our area grows in population. The purpose of the project is to identify and recommend properties along the Yadkin River for conservation or restoration. Study consists of the 34-mile stretch along the Yadkin River between Surry and Yadkn County. We are currently in the process of collecting data along the Yadkin River and the properties that wished to participate in the study.

If you have any questions about these projects or wish to know how we can help with other projects, contact Marc Allred at mallred@nwpcog.org or by phone at 336-761-2111.
