| Ninth Annual Grady Hunter Regional Excellence Award Presented
At a meeting of the Northwest Piedmont Council of Governments’ (NWPCOG) Board of Delegates on Tuesday, October 20, 2009, the ninth annual Grady Hunter Regional Excellence Award was presented to Mount Airy City Mayor Jack Loftis and Stokes County Commissioner Ernest Lankford. Mayor Loftis has served on the NWPCOG Board of Delegates since June 2003 and is the current Chairman. Commissioner Lankford has served on the Board since January 2007 and is the current Treasurer.
The Award is named in honor of the late Grady Hunter, who served as a Yadkin County Commissioner and was also a member of the NWPCOG’s Board of Delegates for 19 years. The Award was developed to honor an individual, within Davie, Forsyth, Stokes, Surry, and Yadkin Counties (Region I), that is dedicated to public service and issues facing the Northwest Piedmont area of North Carolina. The recipient is voted on annually by the Board of Delegates.
