Workforce Development Board Hosts Third Annual Offender Services
Resource Fair
On Thursday, November 1, 2007, the Northwest Piedmont Workforce Development Program hosted its third annual Offender Resource Fair in partnership with Union Baptist Church. Through this community collaboration, services were offered to local residents having difficulty finding employment due to misdemeanor or felony convictions. The fair was held at Union Baptist Church – 1200 North Trade Street. Doors were open to the public from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm for the Resource Fair and opened at 8:30 am for workshops.
Twenty agencies were present to provide information, services and employment opportunities. We were able to inform ex-offenders, their families and circles of support about community resources including: employment and training, health care, credit counseling, legal issues, child care, transportation, and social services. The fair also was a valuable resource for anyone working with ex-offenders and their families. Participants were also able to participate in workshops and enjoyed several guest speakers.
